This election cycle has been particularly loud and even shrill. I’m pleased to say that my campaign remained focused on policies, and not personalities.
The birth of our great country was a raucous and calamitous affair, and that noisiness remains part of American politics even today. My hope is that it does not deter people from having faith in the political process. I believe government can accomplish great things for the people, and that is why I embark on a new term as state senator with eagerness and optimism.
Though we elect people to represent us, the participatory process does not end the day after an election. I encourage all West Virginians to stay informed and involved in the issues. Your elected officials are charged with mapping a future for West Virginia during a time of great uncertainty and instability. They need an informed and watchful electorate to keep them focused and goal-oriented. The campaign season is over for now. It is time to choose policy over politics, action over atrophy, ideas over ideologies.
I want to thank the voters of Kanawha County for once again placing their faith in my leadership. I promise I will work hard to earn your continued trust and confidence.
