YMCA Spirit of the Valley Helps Many People

by Senator Brooks McCabe on July 20, 2010

Spirit of the Valley Award - YMCA of Kanawha ValleyNon-profit organizations are essential within any community and the YMCA of Kanawha Valley is a great example. Its facilities and programs help families and individuals live more healthy and socially-engaged lives.

It’s my privilege to be recognized for the organization’s “Spirit of the Valley” award, but more importantly, I welcome you to consider giving for the cause of this annual fundraiser.

All proceeds will benefit the YMCA Community Assistance Scholarship Fund, the YMCA Activate America Youth Movement and Read Aloud West Virginia. These programs provide children and families in need with access to the YMCA and Read Aloud West Virginia’s mission is to “help raise a state full of readers.”

How You Can Help

You can make a general contribution to YMCA of Kanawha Valley, 100 YMCA Drive, Charleston, WV, 25311 (Pledge Card, PDF).

Also, tickets for the August 11 luncheon at the Charleston Civic Center are available at $150 each. To order, contact LeeAnn Doyle: (304) 340-3540 ext. 1151 or ldoyle(at)ymcawv(dot)org.

Perhaps you’ve experienced some of the many benefits of YMCA and/or Read Aloud West Virginia. I welcome you to share related thoughts with readers of this blog.

Thanks to all who are helping advance this effort.

Dear Senator McCabe-

Congratulations on being honored as the 2010 Spirit of the Valley recipient! Having served on the YMCA board for eight years, I am very familiar with this program. I can say with confidence that you are a very deserving recipient. I have long admired your leadership and vision. Thank you for sharing your gifts with the state, region and community.

With utmost respect,

How do we get a one of these in Cabell County? I have been trying to get one (a Y) for the southern end of Cabell for 15 years now.

I was just in Greensboro, NC and they have what they call ‘community Y’s” ..they’re not as big as a normal Y, but have all the other conveniences as a larger one. Just no swimming pool, nor tennis courts. They are basically found in small shopping ’strips’ next to Dollar Generals, Starbucks, things of that nature.
